Traffic direction describes whether network traffic is inbound, outbound, or bidirectional relative to a device, interface, network segment, or observation point.

Traffic volume alone rarely tells the full story. Knowing whether traffic is entering or leaving a network provides the context needed to understand application behavior, user activity, bandwidth consumption, and security events.

How traffic direction works
